  1. That’s a good list. But, I think that you’re missing John Wayne–one ought to see the original True Grit rather than the remake! He certainly captured a flavor of what it means to be an American. There should be at least one John Wayne movie, perhaps The Searchers, The Shootist, or The Fighting Kentuckian. Then, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington ought to be on the list. Gettysburg, The Wind and the Lion, Go For Broke, Stalag 17, and Destination Tokyo make good candidates for the list too.

    • The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence is a John Wayne movie, and the 2010 True Grit is more faithful to the book. Good reccomendations! I would also add Gods and Generals.
