    • You won’t regret it. It reads very quickly, especially if the Era of Reconstruction interests you. An even more fascinating work is Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard, which focuses on both the politics of the day and the state of medicine when President Garfield was shot. I reviewed it way back in July of 2012.

    • Thanks. I always try to add photographs because we live in such a visually inclined culture. I would have added more political cartoons, but many of them seem to have been drawn by Cleveland’s opponents or did not come out right.
