  1. I found this when I was a young man, in one of the few poetry books I had. I was against most poetry, but this man spoke for men, and to men, and gave courage to believe in true manhood. This was especially important for a young boy growing up in the 1990’s-2000’s.

    • The problem with much poetry is that it concentrates too much on the prettiness of the words. One nice thing about Rudyard Kipling’s poetry is that he always concentrates on the meaning, which one also sees in Homer, Vergil, and many other Classical poets. I expect that you would also love Chesterton’s Ballad of the White Horse, which chronicles King Alfred’s victory over the Danes. This salient piece accurately displays the difference between paganism and Christianity in trenchant verses.
