I have been reading about Dictator Obama’s desire to have amnesty for illegal immigrants. To achieve this noble goal, he claims that he would bypass Congress if he could. (Thank God and the Founders for the Constitution!) But, finding ways to bypass Congress is always foremost on Obama’s mind, since he can’t lead and eschews compromise. For example, while the argument for a national minimum wage is still raging, he raised the federal minimum wage by fiat. And, we’ve already seen the bad effects of that.
But, what does he even hope to gain by amnesty? By making citizens of people who neither respect our laws nor love our country? Or, to look at the problem from merely an economic perspective, why should we increase competition for low paying jobs when people are still struggling to become employed? I can only believe that Obama is promoting this amnesty program to take our eyes off his other bad policies. At the same time as he’s pushing for amnesty, participation in the job market is falling, foreign countries have ceased to respect us, terrorists have invaded Iraq, and the Obama administration has proved itself more corrupt than the Ulysses S. Grant’s administration.
And so, I cannot see amnesty except as a way for him to try to gain political points–maybe increase the number of Hispanics willing to vote for a Democrat. In doing so, he harms the general welfare of all citizens and legal immigrants. In general, there is no reason to reward people for breaking the law. When providing amnesty would worsen our already suffering employment market, it is nothing short of criminal.
