The more I think about my vote for Trump, the more I realize that my vote is less for the man Trump than against the Democratic or Progressive ideology. In this two party system we have here in America, where only a vote for a Democrat or a Republican truly matters, I find myself stuck on the Republican side, even though I do not have that much respect for the Republican party. I have respect for particular Republicans, but not the stupid and cowardly Republican politician who is the staple figure within it. Most Republican candidates merely want to keep their jobs and do so by trying to appeal to the right and as many independents as possible. They can never be counted to stand on principle and are all too willing to compromise in ways they should not. When it comes to standing on principle, Democratic politicians are often more admirable.
My political persuasion is determined by my Catholic faith and desire to preserve American liberty. The Democrats, like the Socialists and Communists who are their brothers in arms, have a deep disdain and hatred for the Catholic faith. States like California have tried to imitate Socialists in other countries by declaring parts of Catholic doctrine “hate speech.” I cannot abide a party whose platform endorses abortion, euthanasia, and gender insanity. (God created two biological sexes. Sure, people differ in degree as to masculinity and femininity, but an effeminate man is no more a woman than a tomboy is a man.) I verily believe that Progressive intellectuals and political leaders are more motivated by hatred of of Christ and of God’s laws than by any other cause.
The ridiculous extent to which Progressives defend Islamists–Hillary Clinton refuses even to say “radical Islamic terrorism”–is further proof that the destruction of Christianity is their main goal. What kinds of societies do Muslims build? Ones where homosexuals are executed for their sins, where Muslim women have few legal rights and non-Muslim ones even less, and where slavery flourishes. All this seems very un-Progressive, and Progressive favor for Muslims cannot be explained except that Muslims out-breed other populations and even kill enemies of their religion: predominantly Christians. All of this has the effect of undermining the West and the main religion of the West.
Next, the Democratic Party is profoundly against freedom of speech. This shown especially on college campuses, which should be places dedicated to academic debate. When even permitted on Progressive campuses, conservative speakers are heckled, shouted down, and even struck in the face. Democrats don’t want to hear your ideas or debate with you: they just want you to shut up and let them control your lives. This is what is behind the doctrine of “hate speech,” i.e. any idea offensive to Leftist ideology. Catholic bishops and conservative intellectuals have even been threatened with prosecution for their opinions. How much longer until Democrats imitate their Socialist brethren overseas and then surpass them?
Perhaps the most odious thing about the Democratic party is their disdain for the rule of law. One hears all these pleas of pity for illegal immigrants, but no mention of the fact that they broke the law. Somehow, Democrats assume that illegals have the right to break the law with impunity. Not only do they assume that they have the right to break the law, but even benefit from public schools and have the right to vote. THEY BELIEVE THAT NON-CITIZENS HAVE AS MUCH RIGHT TO VOTE AS A CITIZEN! What nonsense is this!? What separates the citizen from the alien if both are accorded suffrage? Of course, Democrats don’t openly espouse the idea of illegals having the right to vote, but the party machine proves that they believe it through enabling voter fraud.
Next, Democrats support gun control. Do you know what the origin of gun control is in this country? Laws prohibiting freedmen from owning firearms following the Civil War. That was sponsored by the Democratic party in the South. In 1911, New York City’s Tammany Hall famously enacted the Sullivan law so that police officers could more easily intimidate immigrants. (Just read this article here to learn gun control’s sorry history.) Democrats oppose the 2nd Amendment because it is much harder to control an armed populace, just read about what happened in Athens, Tennessee.
Those count as the main reasons I can never countenance voting for Democrats: they are enemies of the Faith and enemies of American liberty. I don’t want leaders who try to socially engineer society to fit into their ideological paradigm and who oppress dissidents. Frederick Douglas spoke concerning the attempts to control the lives of black freedmen, but his words are relevant for every individual casting his vote against Hillary Clinton:
Everybody has asked the question, and they learned to ask it early of the abolitionists, “What shall we do with the Negro?” I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are wormeaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! I am not for tying or fastening them on the tree in any way, except by nature’s plan, and if they will not stay there, let them fall. And if the Negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone!
–What the Black Man Wants (1865)
My message to the Democratic party is to let us alone. And because I know that they cannot leave us alone, because they believe that an ordinary citizen cannot direct his own life, and because that band of elitists and intellectual pettifoggers think they can direct our lives and our own thoughts for us, I will oppose their gaining power in the one concrete means in my disposal: the ballot.
Do Trump’s flaws and scandals hold a candle to the Progressive ideology discussed above? Do they hold a candle to Hillary’s own corruption? I think not.
P. S. My pent up emotions over the election spawned the article above. I’m sure that many of you also have pent up emotions concerning the election. Feel free to vent below.
I don’t really need to vent. I understand that even if my vote is against someone, it still means I must “own” whatever the person I vote for stands for, and what kind of person they are. You voted for Trump as a “lesser evil”. You do bear a partial responsibility for helping support evil he might do, because you helped grant him high office. Voting is a duty too many take lightly.
It is true that I bear responsibility for any evil that Trump might cause in office. But, I am cheered by the fact that both Republicans and Democrats dislike him, especially in Congress, and that the media also dislikes him. This gives me some assurance that, in the case of him breaking the law, all three of them will hold Trump accountable. Then, we can have Pence in office, who is the most respectable person on either ticket.
Still, Trump convinced me that he sincerely loves this country in his own way, and I hope he won’t commit scandal in the Oval Office–if only because people will be watching him closely.
